Sojourn to the Past
"They didn't like my dad because he was a successful businessman," explains Dennis Dahmer, son of slain civil rights hero, Vernon F. Dahmer, to a group of students and teachers attending the Sojourn Project. Huddled around what remains of the family's old store at 796 Monroe Blvd. in Hattiesburg, Dahmer tells the group how his late father had been funding the civil rights movement in Mississippi and spearheading voter registration efforts when 12 members of the Klu Klux Klan firebombed their home and store in 1966.
